Breaking down the “Hold On” TV spot for The Rise of Skywalker!

I’ve been trying to keep up with the various TV spots released for The Rise of Skywalker, but I haven’t yet gotten to the “Hold On” spot released on December 1.

There weren’t a ton of new shots in this TV spot, but there was one in particular that was great. You can take a look at this spot below:

Let’s dive in and break down the few new shots we got in this TV spot!

We get a few brief new glimpses of the speeder chase on Pasaana, as we see a different angle of both speeders: the first with Poe, Finn, and C-3PO on it, and the second with Rey and Chewbacca. We also see the humorous, “They fly now?” exchange in this TV spot.

Here’s another brief new angle of a shot, as we see Poe and Finn in the Star Destroyer, with Poe turning to look at something.

This is the shot I was talking about earlier, and it’s great. Rey, Finn, and Poe are aboard this Star Destroyer, and they’re confronted by a couple of stormtroopers. You can see that Poe has his blaster ready in the background, but Rey approaches the troopers and waves her hand to use a Jedi mind trick, saying, “It’s ok that we’re here.” The stormtroopers respond, with one of them saying, “It’s ok that you’re here”, and the other saying, “It’s good.” In a great line, Poe leans in to Finn and asks, “Does she do that to us?”

That’s just tremendous humor. It’s well-placed and well-executed, and it makes perfect sense too. I love it.

The last new shot that we get is simply a new angle of Kylo Ren’s TIE on Pasaana, approaching Rey for the sequence where she flips over the ship.
