Recently, a new TV spot for The Rise of Skywalker was released, this one called “Forever”, and it has a lot of new footage and dialogue.
Check it out:
As we’ve been doing, let’s dive in to the new stuff from this TV spot and break it down. At the bottom of the article, you’ll find links to my previous breakdowns of footage as well.
I’m really excited for that aspect of the film: we haven’t seen our big three of the sequel trilogy really do anything together so far, so I’m glad that J.J. Abrams decided to send them on an adventure together. I can’t wait to see their dynamic, and of course I love how Finn here makes it clear that they’re in it with Rey and that she’s not alone. Throughout the sequel trilogy, she has felt very alone at several points, but she’s found her belonging. She’s not alone anymore. And even if she wants to go alone, Finn and the others won’t let her.
Here’s a different shot of the festival on Pasaana, with the Aki-Aki celebrating something. This is most likely the festival that Rey and the others happen upon when they arrive on the planet.
We get a new shot of Poe, as well as a new line of dialogue, as we hear him say, “We’ve got friends out there. Good people will fight if we lead them.” The second part of that statement is one we’ve heard before, but that first line is new. But it’s true: they do have friends out there, and that’s a big part of what Leia spent the year in-between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker doing as she recruited allies to the cause. Here, Poe leads a briefing that we’ve glimpsed previously. I wonder if they’re still waiting on more help to arrive, thus his statement that they have friends out there?
It’s Lando! It looks like he’s on Ajan Kloss, and he turns and looks at something. In the background, it almost looks like people are celebrating, but I’m not sure if that necessarily means it’s from the end of the film. I doubt they’d show something from that. But it certainly is great to see Lando, looking great as always.
At that Resistance briefing, Finn says, “They’ve taken enough of us. Now we take the war to them.” In The Force Awakens, Finn defects from the enemy and just wants to run away. He learns that he can’t and shouldn’t in The Last Jedi, and then here he’s saying that they should take the fight to the enemy. It’s pretty cool to see that progression play out, and I’m glad that it seems Finn will be a focus in TROS.
As we hear the line from Palpatine saying, “Let the final battle… begin!”, we see Kylo Ren swing his lightsaber up and point it at something off-screen. Palpatine, maybe?
