For a little less than a year following Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker took on his first apprentice: his sister, Leia Organa. He trained her in the ways of the Force, teaching her to be a Jedi until she voluntarily gave up this path to focus on her son, Ben, and her political career.
Next year, we’ll get a glimpse of that training with the release of the novel Star Wars: Twin Crossroads, written by Beth Revis. Announced at San Diego Comic Con, Revis said that the book picks up immediately after her novel The Princess and the Scoundrel, which is about Leia’s wedding to Han Solo and the adventure they stumble into on their honeymoon. Luke trains Leia on Ajan Kloss, where they have a classic sibling relationship – some bickering, some inside jokes, etc. – but also both face the future: Luke as he tries to become a teacher, Leia as she grapples with Darth Vader being her father.
As this goes on, the siblings are sent on a mission to infiltrate the Imperial Palace on Coruscant. This forces them to confront the legacies of their parents, as well as what lies ahead for them.
It sounds like this book is exactly what I’ve been hoping for, as I want to learn more about Leia’s time training with Luke. In this story, for example, Revis says she came up with the explanation for how Leia got her kyber crystal. Things like that are just cool to learn, and when set against a journey to Coruscant? I have high hopes for this book, and I hope it’s just the beginning of more stories to be told about the siblings’ time training together.
