At the Disney Upfront showcase on Tuesday, Rosario Dawson took the stage to announce that the second season of Ahsoka will be releasing early in 2027 on Disney+.
That’s a delay from what was widely expected to be a 2026 release window, but the good news is that we finally do have a time frame in which to expect the series. The absurd part of this is that by the time the second season releases it will be nearly three and a half years since season one released (it premiered on August 22, 2023) and a year and a half since it wrapped filming – both of which are so crazy it seems hard to believe until realizing it’s actually the case. To put it another way: the gap between the two seasons of Ahsoka will almost certainly be longer than the gap between the release cadence of Star Wars films, as the movies were spaced three years apart in the original trilogy, prequel trilogy, and sequel trilogy. This kind of gap is entirely unsustainable if Star Wars wants to keep prioritizing live-action TV, but it doesn’t seem to be as much of a priority for Disney any longer. With Ahsoka getting pushed to 2027, it will mean that this year is the first without any live-action Star Wars series since 2018.
As for the series itself, Ahsoka will pick up with Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) stranded in another galaxy on Peridia, where Shin Hati (Ivanna Sahkno) and Baylan Skoll (Rory McCann, taking over for the late Ray Stevenson) also have their own quests. In the main Star Wars galaxy, Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson) has returned to wage war against the New Republic, while rebels like Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) oppose him. Additionally, we know that Admiral Ackbar will feature in the series going head-to-head with Thrawn in space combat, while Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker, presumably to mentor his former apprentice through the Force.
Ahsoka comes from showrunner Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm co-President and Chief Creative Officer. I’ll be really eager to see it when it finally does release in 2027, but it’s hard to believe just how long of a gap it will be in-between seasons. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.
