Though The Mandalorian season three is nearing its finale, the hype for two other shows from the Mandoverse continues to grow. Both Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew were highlighted as well at Star Wars Celebration, and among other announcements and discussion about the shows, the full list of directors for each series was revealed.
Ahsoka premieres in August on Disney+ and is created by showrunner Dave Filoni, who serves as an executive producer on all of the Mandoverse shows and obviously has quite a strong connection to Ahsoka Tano. He is a producer, writer, and showrunner on the series, but he’s also a director. Joining Filoni as directors on episodes of Ahsoka are Steph Green (who also directed episode two of The Book of Boba Fett), Peter Ramsey (who directed the fifth episode of The Mandalorian season three, which just aired recently), Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa (who is also a director and executive producer on The Mandalorian).
As for Skeleton Crew, the list of directors was announced at the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase on Friday. Jon Watts, who is best-known as the director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man trilogy, is the showrunner of the series. He’ll also be a director, and he’s joined by David Lowery, the Daniels, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard (who has directed episodes on all three seasons of The Mandalorian, as well as The Book of Boba Fett), and Lee Isaac Chung (who directed the third episode of The Mandalorian season three).
Adding all of it together, these announcements now make it 20 different directors who will have worked on an episode in the Mandoverse, between the three seasons of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew. It’s proving to be not only a way for Star Wars to get plenty of other people involved in these roles, but it’s also a way of developing a pool for future Star Wars content (like Deborah Chow taking on Obi-Wan Kenobi, for example).
