Star Wars Celebration 2022 kicked off with the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase, and given that the panel was titled “Lucasfilm” and not just “Star Wars,” we assumed there would be other non-Star Wars updates – and we were right! Updates were also given on two other epic universes created by George Lucas, Willow and Indiana Jones.
First up was Willow, introduced by Ron Howard, which will premiere on Disney+ on November 30, 2022. The series is set twenty years after the original film, and it stars Warwick Davis as Willow Ufgood and Joanne Walley as Sorsha, both of whom reprise their roles from the movie. The show focuses on young women who set out to find the greatest sorcerer, Willow, and thus begins their quest.
We got our first real look at the series, with a teaser trailer!
Furthermore, star Harrison Ford and director James Mangold were on hand at Celebration, promoting Indiana Jones 5 – which was confirmed to be coming to theaters on June 30, 2023! Ford seemed to get emotional talking about how much they enjoyed filming it, and we got our first glimpse of the upcoming film with a teaser promotional image:
Even though neither of these are Star Wars projects, I’m glad they were included in the panel, as there’s not really any other obvious place to drop news like this. While Lucasfilm does almost only Star Wars stuff (and for good reason), it’s really cool that these two projects are also being picked up on and developed further!
