Kathy Kennedy confirms that the Lando series with Donald Glover is happening

What have we here?

Back in 2020, Lucasfilm President Kathy Kennedy announced that there were plans for a Lando series, following Lando Calrissian, but we haven’t heard much about it since then. Donald Glover recently mentioned that talks are ongoing about making it happen, but at Star Wars Celebration Kennedy was even more direct.

When asked by IGN what she could say about Glover and Lando, Kennedy responded, “I can just tell you it’s still happening, and he’s very excited about it.”

The role of Lando Calrissian was made famous by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. And when Williams was asked recently at Celebration why the character became so iconic, he replied with his classic charm, “because Billy Dee Williams played him.” Williams has returned to the part for a number of voice roles over the years, but also for The Rise of Skywalker. But Donald Glover took over the role as a younger Lando for Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, and his portrayal of the scoundrel was widely praised.

Glover has amassed quite the career in the industry, so he’s obviously got a lot of other projects going on. The same could be said of Lucasfilm, which was busy promoting a bunch of other shows at Celebration. But this is about as direct as it gets in confirming that yes, a Lando project is still planned and still going to happen. We just don’t know when.
