At Star Wars Celebration London 2023 just moments ago, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced the next slate of Star Wars movies – and it’s an epic lineup.
Three films were announced. The first is directed by Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold and will be the Dawn of the Jedi. It is about the first Jedi and is described as being like a Biblical epic, taking place 25,000 years prior to the Skywalker Saga.
The second is directed by Star Wars veteran Dave Filoni and will be set in the Mandoverse. It will tie together all the stories that Filoni and Jon Favreau have been telling in this time era, making good on the promise of an epic crossover event. Filoni will make his live-action theatrical debut as director, while Favreau will produce. It’s a story about the Imperial Remnant versus the New Republic.
The third is directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a project that’s been rumored to be in production. But we now know what it’s about: it will be set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker and will be about a new Jedi Order. And yes, officially announced at Celebration is that Daisy Ridley is returning to the role of Rey in the film!
No specific release dates for the three films were given, but they sound amazing and I’m so pumped!
Lovin’ all the news about the three new films. The direction Obaid-Chinoy, Mangold and Filoni are taking are all something I would like to see. Sure, many fans hoped we would move on well into the SW future, but there is time for that. Ashoka trailer is pretty awesome too.
