The upcoming issue of Empire Magazine will take us behind the scenes of The Mandalorian season 3, promising over 20 pages of content about the return of the popular Star Wars series.
The issue, which goes on sale on Thursday, February 16, has two covers that were recently revealed. One of them, the standard version, features Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze, with Grogu in-between them. The fact that Bo-Katan is featured so prominently like this certainly suggests she’ll have a much bigger role in the season, which makes sense. The third season of the show will explore far more of Mandalore and the different Mandalorian clans. At one point it was Bo-Katan who wielded the darksaber in an effort to unite these clans, but now it’s Djarin who wields the darksaber. Will he be the one to be able to actually unite Mandalore, succeeding where Kryze failed?
That remains to be seen, but this season promises to be packed with Mandalorians. That’s evidenced all the more by the second cover, one for the subscriber issue, which features a number of different Mandalorian helmets placed together. There are some obvious ones included, like the helmets worn by the Armorer, Mando, and Bo-Katan. There are plenty of others too (including what looks like the helmets worn by Paz Vizsla, Koska Reeves, and Axe Wolves), and there’s even one that looks like it could be Sabine Wren’s helmet (though it’s not entirely conclusive). But of note is that the very last helmet included, on the bottom right, is the first Mandalorian helmet we ever saw: the one worn by Boba Fett.
It’s pretty unmistakable and has some unique characteristics, and while it’s not really a surprise this is the strongest indication yet that Boba Fett will be appearing in the third season. And if the show really does dive far deeper into the Mandalorian culture, it will be extremely interesting to see how Fett fits into it all. He’s not technically a Mandalorian, and some others have had issue with it, but will he become an ally?
One thing’s for sure: get ready for plenty of Mandalorians to fill your screens when The Mandalorian returns on March 1.
