The Star Wars Jedi series is expanding.
It began with the fantastic video game Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019, and an accompanying book, The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, was released detailing the making of the game. Next year, the sequel to the game arrives with Jedi: Survivor, set five years after the events of Fallen Order. And two more books have been announced to go along with it!
There is once again a book detailing the making of the game, The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which will release on May 2, 2023. Like the other “Art of” Star Wars books, this will feature plenty of concept art and tidbits about the development of the highly-anticipated project.
But the bigger news is that a new novel is being released as well, telling a brand new story about “Cal Kestis leading the Mantis crew on an adventure” in-between Fallen Order and Survivor. The book, Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars, is written by Sam Maggs and will release on March 7, 2023.
I am super excited that we’ll actually be getting two different stories about Cal and the crew next year, one in a novel and the other in a game. I’m hoping that all of this marks just the beginning of more stories being told, and perhaps the five-year gap in-between games is partially so that there’s plenty of room to expand things in the meantime.
There’s no release date yet for Jedi: Survivor, but I do wonder if these release dates can give us a clue. If I had to guess, I’d think the game will drop sometime in-between these two releases. If it came after Battle Scars, we’d have a story that serves as a prequel to help us get familiar with the world and the story of the game before we dive into it. But I also wouldn’t think that they would release the “Art of” book prior to the game releasing, as that hasn’t been done before by Star Wars and would seem to spoil some things. So I fully expect the game to release sometime prior to May 2 (or simultaneous with it), and I can’t wait for it and these accompanying materials!
