The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser officially opened on March 1, bringing visitors to Walt Disney World all the more into an immersive Star Wars experience that was started with the Galaxy’s Edge park.
While not everyone is able to travel to visit Galaxy’s Edge, even fewer will be able to visit the Galactic Starcruiser due to high prices, so it’s nice to see some content from the experience for those of us who won’t be heading there anytime soon. Many of the reviews for the hotel were very balanced and fair, praising the immersive storytelling and the characters while criticizing the exclusivity and pricing. That seems reasonable, and it’s also a bit strange that the choice for the setting is a luxury cruiseliner, focusing on a Canto Bight-like crowd when most of the galaxy we know is the everyday normal folk. But, again, it’s worth praising Lucasfilm and Disney for their willingness to explore ambitious, immersive storytelling avenues for the Star Wars galaxy, giving visitors a chance to really feel like they are a part of the universe. And similar to Galaxy’s Edge, Star Wars has been releasing a decent amount of promotional material for the Galactic Starcruiser. This is obviously intended to try to drive interest in people visiting (rightly so), but it also doubles as an opportunity for those who aren’t able to visit to get a look at what it’s all about.
So recently Star Wars has released a series of “Dispatches from the Halcyon,” hosted by Kristin Baver, that give you an inside look at the brand new Galactic Starcruiser:
