On Tuesday, November 17, an exciting new Star Wars project will drop on Disney+, as The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will be released!
Paying homage to the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978, this LEGO film will follow Rey and her friends in the post-The Rise of Skywalker era preparing to celebrate Life Day. But Rey winds up being sent through time, where she’ll meet up with various iconic Star Wars characters.
Today, an amazing poster was released for the film:
So that’s pretty hilarious. Well played, LEGO Star Wars.
But that’s the kind of humor we’ve come to expect, and I really can’t wait for this holiday special. Making it even better is the fact that a number of very familiar cast members will be returning to voice characters in this film. As revealed by StarWars.com, Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) and Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico) are among the live-action actors to reprise their roles for this animated project. But additionally, a number of familiar voice actors are returning to their roles from The Clone Wars, including Matt Lanter (Anakin Skywalker), James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Dee Bradley Baker (clone troopers), and Tom Kane (Yoda and Qui-Gon Jinn).
Particularly exciting is the return of Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico. She is amazing, and it sounds like she will actually have an important role in The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. “She has a really prominent role throughout the story,” executive producer James Waugh told Entertainment Weekly. “This story works in an A-B way. The ‘A’ story is on Kashyyyk where Rey, Poe, Rose and Finn are all trying to create the greatest Life Day party ever for Chewie and his family. Then the B story is Rey going off to seek knowledge at the Jedi Temple that takes her across the movies’ history … Rose’s role in this it to really takes charge she basically saves the day, in many ways. We wanted to make sure we got a lot of Kelly in as Rose was going to be an essential part of whatever [the Resistance heroes’] future was going to be after Episode IX and she was a blast to work with.”
That’s incredibly encouraging and exciting to hear, and I really can’t wait to see this!
… And, if my eyes don’t deceive me, in the images released today by the Star Wars website, there’s a Wookiee who looks a bit like Itchy… that would be quite the return!
