A LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is coming to Disney+ in November!

Yesterday, Star Wars announced that a LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will premiere on Disney+ on November 17, 2020!

Yes, that’s right: a LEGO Holiday Special!

This 45-minute special will also focus on Life Day, just as the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special did in 1978. This time, though, the story focuses on Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewbacca, Rose, R2-D2, BB-8, and more, set after The Rise of Skywalker. The crew prepares for Life Day while Rey heads off to a Jedi Temple with BB-8 to learn more about the Force. There, she is sent on a journey throughout the Star Wars timeline, interacting with key moments and characters like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and more. And, of course, they’ve got to try to make it to Kashyyyk in time for Life Day (sound familiar?).

“It’s a celebration of the saga,” executive producer Josh Rimes told USA Today. “A lot of characters will be interacting with different characters and perhaps even different versions of themselves at different ages.” Rimes also mentioned that this special will “give a wink and a nod to the original” Holiday Special, but is also inspired by It’s a Wonderful Life, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Christmas Vacation and Burl Ives.

I think this is hilarious but also pretty cool. The LEGO Star Wars stuff is typically pretty great, and to have something like this pay homage to and poke some fun at the original Holiday Special is something that I think will be pretty incredible. I’m excited to see it!
