As a result of general marketplace delays stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and the related fallout, the launch of the new era of Star Wars storytelling, The High Republic, has been delayed.
Originally set to launch this August, it will now launch in January of 2021.
On Tuesday, January 5, 2021, both Light of the Jedi (written by Charles Soule) and A Test of Courage (written by Justina Ireland) will release. So Soule’s book will still launch the era, but will now be joined by Ireland’s middle grade book. A month later, on February 2, 2021, Into the Dark (written by Claudia Gray) will release. So within a month’s time early next year, we will have the first three novels from this brand new era!
As for the two comics that have been announced, there will be new release dates for them as well, but they haven’t yet been announced.
The High Republic is an era set 200 years prior to the events of the Skywalker Saga and is a period of great galactic expansion – but a great and tragic crisis tests the Jedi in considerable ways. Head here if you want to read more articles about what we know of the era so far.
It’s a disappointment that these books were delayed, but it’s not surprising. In the end, we’ll still be able to read them soon, but we’ll just have to wait a few more months instead. I’m really excited about The High Republic and the vast storytelling potential therein and I can’t wait to begin reading in January!
