The Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order panel was held this afternoon, giving us our first look at the highly-anticipated single-player Star Wars game coming later this year!
It was confirmed that the game will have no micro-transactions nor any loot boxes, and that this single-player story-based game will be released on November 15, 2019 for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. It was described at the panel as “an action melee game” that features “thoughtful combat.” We also got our first look at the game, as a trailer was unveiled early in the panel.
Take a look at the epic trailer below, which focuses on the story of the game rather than the gameplay:
The game follows Cal Kestis (played by Cameron Monaghan!), a former Jedi padawan who is now hiding in plain sight when the game opens, working as part of the scrapper guild tearing apart capital ships from the Clone Wars. But he soon attracts the attention of the Inquisitors, including the Second Sister and Purge Troopers! People have opinions about who the Second Sister might be, but as for the Purge Troopers, this trailer was our first look at them! They actually brought out a real life Purge Trooper on stage at the panel, which was pretty cool. These elite troopers, in addition to looking awesome, are trained to fight Jedi and are airdropped in as the first responders to soften up any Jedi before the Inquisitors get there.
As Cal goes on this journey, he’s accompanied by his trusty droid BD-1 (which to the development team stood for “Buddy Droid 1”), who is described not as a sidekick but as an equal, and along the way the two best friends learn to lean on one another. As a cool tidbit, Ben Burtt actually created the voice for BD-1! His mentor along the way is a former Jedi Knight played by Deborah Wilson. And as for his lightsaber? The developers said they probably won’t talk about that until after the game is released, because the lightsaber is full of spoilers and is intimately tied in to the game. They did say, however, that the lightsaber will grow and evolve as the story goes on and that it’s actually a reflection of Cal’s journey.
We haven’t seen any actual gameplay yet, but this all sounds really awesome. The trailer is pretty great, as it gives us a good idea as to what the story will be, and I’m just really excited and hopeful about a single-player, story-based Star Wars game with no microtransactions, loot boxes, multiplayer, etc. It’s been a long time. So, again, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order releases this November 15! I’m excited for it!
