Filming for Star Wars: Episode IX has officially wrapped.
Director J.J. Abrams took to social media to announce that, as well as share a heartfelt message of appreciation for his co-workers and a touching photo of Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac hugging.
“It feels impossible, but today wrapped photography for Episode IX,” Abrams wrote. “There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast. I’m forever indebted to you all.”
In the photo Abrams shared, you can catch a glimpse at the subtle yet new looks at the three main heroes of the sequel trilogy. John Boyega has a slightly different hairstyle and what looks to be a different jacket; Oscar Isaac is not wearing a jacket; and Daisy Ridley is wearing a very similar outfit to The Force Awakens, only cleaner and whiter. The outfits of the latter two match those leaked reference photos that recently surfaced.
Earlier today we got plenty of indications that filming was wrapping up, and Abrams’s announcement makes it official. The principal photography has officially wrapped on the final film of the Skywalker saga, a project over four decades in the making. It’s definitely a bittersweet day, but we have plenty more to look forward to in the coming months as we get closer and closer to seeing Episode IX on-screen this December. I can’t wait!
