Information has been pretty tight surrounding Star Wars: Episode IX, and that includes with the identity of the newcomers to the franchise.
There’s an impressive cast of new faces, which includes Richard E. Grant, Dominic Monaghan, Keri Russell, and Naomi Ackie. We seemed to get a bit of confirmation regarding which side Grant and Monaghan are on thanks to a recent leak, and there have been many fans speculating on the identity of Russell’s character. But we really haven’t heard much of anything about Ackie’s character, though a recent interview she gave seems to give us a pretty good indication of at least what side she is on.
ODE recently caught up with Ackie (h/t StarWarsLeaks subreddit), and among other things they talked with her about Star Wars (obviously!). The interviewer asked her who her favorite person to work with was, and she named three important ones:
“I think my absolute faves were the like Star Wars new originals, I loved being with John [Boyega] and Daisy [Ridley] and Oscar [Isaac]. And yeah, it was brilliant to share the screen with them. Such brilliant energy. It’s brilliant. ”
What’s important to note is that Ackie mentioned sharing the screen with those three, which would mean that her character has screentime with Rey, Finn, and Poe. Those are the three main new heroes of the sequel trilogy, and so that would very likely suggest that Ackie is a member of the Resistance – or at least an ally friendly to their cause. According to a recent leak by Making Star Wars it seems that those three heroes are reunited at least at one point during the film (you can read that report for a bit more details about that, but beware that there are some leaks and spoilers there). So this would suggest that perhaps Ackie is there as well, or at the very least that she’s with those three characters at varying points throughout the film.
So yeah, I think that this is a pretty good indication that Naomi Ackie’s character will be someone with the Resistance or friendly to the Resistance. We don’t yet know any details about who that might be, but it probably gives us a clue as to her allegiance. And that’s at least something.
