There’s yet another newcomer to the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX, as Dominic Monaghan is confirmed to have been added to the project. The news was first reported by Deadline and has been confirmed by the actor himself.
Monaghan is familiar with director J.J. Abrams from the Lost television series, which was co-created by Abrams and which starred Monaghan as the character of Charlie Pace. Monaghan has also played the character of Merry in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and he played Chris Bradley in the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
It is unknown what role Monaghan will play in Episode IX, but he joins a list of newcomers to the saga that includes Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, and Keri Russell. It’s not uncommon for actors to be announced following the initial casting announcement, so even that can’t tell us for sure anything about the size of his role in the upcoming film.
