Keri Russell has already been filming scenes for Episode IX

Last week, Deadline talked with actress Keri Russell about some of her past, current, and future projects, and obviously one of those is Star Wars: Episode IX.

The highly-anticipated film began filming earlier this month, and we know that John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Joonas Suotamo, and others have already been busy at work.  It turns out that Russell has been too.

Deadline’s Pete Hammond wrote that he “hopped on the phone this week with Russell, who was just coming from the airport after arriving back from London where she is shooting Star Wars: Episode IX.”  So there’s confirmation that Russell has already been filming scenes, but she’s currently taking a break.  The article mentioned that Russell will film off and on over the next few months for Episode IX.

Russell is excited to re-team with director J.J. Abrams, with whom she worked on the TV show Felicity (which Abrams created) and the movie Mission: Impossible III (which Abrams directed).  “It is just so much more fun to work with someone that you like so much,” Russell told Deadline.  “I mean, we see each other and then we talk nonstop and fill in all the details of the past years, and you know, it’s just nice when you have that kind of fun and history with someone.  It makes it all that much more enjoyable.  When J.J. calls so unexpectedly, cool things happen.”

We still have zero details on Russell’s role in the film, though when Variety first reported that Russell was in talks for Episode IX they described it as a role with “action-heavy fight scenes.”  That doesn’t tell us what side of the fight she’s on, but she may be doing quite a bit of fighting.

One other interesting tidbit to note is far less concrete as Russell’s filming schedule, but a poster on Reddit claimed yesterday that at the Fairfax Comic Con Greg Grunberg told someone that he’s heading to the United Kingdom next week for Episode IX.  Obviously, take this with a large grain of salt (since it’s Reddit, after all), but we knew Grunberg was going to be in the film (he plays Snap Wexley) and this would provide us details on when he’s going to begin filming.
