For the first time ever, the Star Wars universe and the Marvel Comics universe are coming together.
A new five-issue limited series, Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, will be a crossover story written by Kevin Smith with art by David Marquez. The first issue will release in January 2027, as Lucasfilm begins a year-long celebration as the franchise turns 50.
As for this story, here is the description given by StarWars.com:
The series follows Marvel heroes as they see the events of Star Wars unfolding on Earth and before their very eyes, after a spell shatters reality. The Avengers, Spider-Man, and more will team up with heroes like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, while Doctor Doom will align himself with the likes of Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire.
This story, then, brings together two of the biggest pop culture fandoms in the world, bringing together a singular story featuring heroes and villains from both Star Wars and Marvel. While it surely won’t have much significance on the Star Wars canon, it will be a fun, and novel, opportunity for fans to enjoy an exciting tale that previously has been confined only to the imagination.
While this is the first crossover story between the two franchises, Star Wars actually has a long relationship with Marvel, dating back to April 1977 – one month before the original movie hit theaters – with the release of Star Wars #1. Since then comics have been an important part of storytelling, with a renewed emphasis being placed upon the medium in the Disney era of Star Wars.
