Disney+ releases short “Master and Apprentice” feature to remind viewers of Ahsoka’s journey

The ending of the fourth episode of Ahsoka was a dream come true for Star Wars fans, giving us the first ever interaction between Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker in live-action.

But for those who haven’t watched the animated shows, while the main essentials are there, the scene probably lacks a lot of the backstory that makes it land so emotionally for others. So Disney+ has released a seven-minute “Master and Apprentice” special look feature to give a reminder fo fans of Ahsoka’s history. It features interviews with executive producers Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Carrie Beck, as well as star Rosario Dawson, talking about the character and her journey.

A particular focus is on Dave Filoni’s own master/apprentice relationship with George Lucas, working with the master on The Clone Wars – for which Ahsoka was created. When Lucas told Filoni that the character would be Anakin’s padawan, Filoni responded by saying that Anakin didn’t have a padawan. But that’s when George Lucas just told him that Anakin had a padawan, and that settled it.

This feature is a great way to honor Ahsoka’s animated origins (and I was glad Filoni gave a shout-out to voice actress Ashley Eckstein), and I hope that it might convince some people to give those shows a try after watching Ahsoka. She’s one of the best characters in the franchise with a ton of stories following her journey, especially in The Clone Wars and Rebels but now in this series as well.

Of course, it also can serve another purpose: reminding fans that Ahsoka was Anakin’s padawan. That much has already been made clear in the Ahsoka series too, but it will surely be a major in next week’s episode now that the two are “reunited” once again.
