A behind-the-scenes look at the making of The Mandalorian season 3 is coming to Disney+ on June 28

One of the long-standing Star Wars traditions is that fans get quite a look behind-the-scenes at the making of a project.

There have been tons of documentaries exploring the making of a movie or show, including some of the very best movie documentaries you’ll ever see, like “The Beginning” (The Phantom Menace) and “The Director and the Jedi” (The Last Jedi). More recently, Disney+ has been producing looks behind-the-scenes at the shows they’ve been releasing.

This summer, we’ll be getting the latest installment, as Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian will return with a new episode, titled “The Making of Season 3.”

The Disney Gallery series first released with a look at how the first season of the show was brought to life, with eight episodes devoted to it. There were then two different specials released about the second season, with one looking at the making of the season overall and the other focused on bringing back Luke Skywalker. We’ve also had a Disney Gallery episode devoted to the making of The Book of Boba Fett, and then there was a separate hour-long special about the making of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

This latest episode will premiere on Disney+ on June 28, dropping right in the middle of a window where there’s not much new Star Wars content coming to the streaming platform, after a previous stretch of massive volume of content and ahead of Ahsoka this August.

I’m excited for this episode, as I love seeing these glimpses at how things were brought to life. But it also raises an oddity about it all, that Andor hasn’t had anything behind the scenes released. It’s currently the only live-action Lucasfilm project (including the Star Wars shows and Willow) to not have one. I’d love to see how that got brought to life, but whether due to Covid, or producing it in Europe, or whatever, we haven’t had anything yet. But it will nonetheless be fun to see a bit more about how The Mandalorian season three came about this summer!
