New trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor released!

The brand new trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is here!

The official reveal trailer, showcasing some of the gameplay of the upcoming single-player game, was released during The Game Awards on Thursday night. After the release of the trailer, Cameron Monaghan – who plays Cal Kestis through motion capture – appeared on stage wielding Cal’s lightsaber, and he called the game one of the best Star Wars games ever made. He said that he’s confident fans will agree once they play it.

Jedi: Survivor will release on March 17, 2023, and from the looks of the trailer, we’re in for a treat.

The trailer shows Cal visiting plenty of new locations, fighting and riding various creatures, and fighting both Imperial troopers and Separatist droids. Additionally, we see Cere, who appears to be collecting Jedi archives, but the rest of the Mantis crew – Merrin and Greez – are curiously absent. There’s a new ally for Cal, currently unknown to us, and a look at the presumed antagonists of the game. We see the figure kept in stasis that we glimpsed in the first trailer, and he says he’s been imprisoned and betrayed by the one closest to him. He looks to show up later in the trailer, and seems to be wearing robes quite similar to those worn by Jedi in the High Republic. Then there’s a pair, perhaps bounty hunters, who fight Cal and are working with this mysterious ‘Jedi.’

Maybe the biggest moment of the trailer, though, is when Cal ignites his lightsaber… and a crossguard blade, like the one Kylo Ren wields in the sequel trilogy (a style taken from the Old Republic era). The combat of this game looks great and even more refined than the previous game, and the open-world nature of it looks far bigger.

The game looks stunning, but it’s a bit hard to get a read on the story component of it yet. Jedi: Fallen Order was absolutely fantastic, and it paired exciting gameplay with a phenomenal story, and I’m hoping that Jedi: Survivor does the same. The darkness of the galaxy is rising and the light of the Jedi continues to die out, but as Cal says at the end of the trailer, “As long as we fight, hope survives.”
