Star Wars announced today that a new look at the gameplay of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is coming later this week, debuting on Thursday, December 8 at The Game Awards.
Accompanying that announcement was a gorgeous new piece of artwork promoting the upcoming game, featuring the return of Cal Kestis and BD-1.
We don’t have an official release date for the game yet, except for knowing it’s coming next year. Recent reports have suggested it’ll release on March 15, which would line up with the release of Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars a week earlier. Battle Scars, a novel written by Sam Maggs telling a story set between Fallen Order and Survivor, will release on March 7, so it makes sense that it would drop shortly before the game does. Regardless, I’m assuming that we’ll probably get an actual release date this Thursday alongside the trailer.
There’s already been one trailer released for the game, a teaser trailer that gives glimpses at the plot without revealing any details. But the trailer that’s coming this week is a gameplay trailer, meaning we’ll get our first look at what it’ll be like to play as Cal this time around. It’s widely assumed that the game will feature updated battle mechanics, including giving Cal a blaster alongside his lightsaber, so I’m excited to see all the new features that will be added this time around.
Fallen Order was a home run when it released, and it’s my favorite Star Wars story game ever released. Cal Kestis, BD-1, Merrin, and the other characters are compelling and I can’t wait to see where their stories go from here. That’s the thing about the game: it not only included fun gameplay, graphics, and worldbuilding, but it also told a fantastic story. My expectations for Survivor are off the charts, but I have a feeling it’ll live up to the hype. We’ll get another look in just a few days!
