Lucasfilm has officially announced the cast for The Acolyte, which has begun production in the U.K.!
Amandla Stenberg was previously announced as one of the leading cast members on the series, and joining her will be Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
The show is being developed by Leslye Headland, who is serving as the creator, showrunner, and executive producer on the series, while also directing the pilot episode. Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef are also executive producers on the project, while Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producing.
There is no official release date known for the series, but we do know that it will be streaming on Disney+ at some point down the road.
The announcement of the cast also included an updated description of the series:
“The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.”
We knew that the series would be set in the later days of the High Republic era, and we knew that it would explore the rise of the Sith and the dark side, but it sounds like the Jedi might come into play more than we expected too. I’m excited for a project that focuses more on the dark side of the Force and the galaxy and explores the Sith during a time where they’re lying in wait while the Jedi think they’re extinct. It’s a series we haven’t heard much about since it was announced, but it’s encouraging to hear about it getting to this stage in the process and beginning production.
In addition to the cast and description, a new photo was also released, giving us our first actual glimpse at the show’s set:
