The High Republic Phase 2 is almost here.
The massive Star Wars publishing initiative that began in January 2021 will resume on Tuesday, with the release of the young adult novel Path of Deceit, written by Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland. To mark that occasion and to further promote the project, Star Wars has once again released an animated short explaining the era.
This one is focused on a new character we’ll be introduced to in Phase 2, Sunshine Dobbs, who is a hyperspace explorer who runs into some trouble.
It’s not entirely clear which story Dobbs will first show up in, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s in Path of Deceit. I love these shorts, as they’re a simple and fun way of staying up with some of the characters and events of the era, giving us an actual “look” at them as we read about them. It’s also a good way to promote the High Republic initiative, and hopefully it leads to more people staying in touch with it and checking out the books and comics.
Phase 2 will be set 150 years before Phase 1, so we’re jumping back in time. Because of that, I’m guessing that we’ll dive even more into the exploration side of things, particularly as it pertains to hyperspace – and thus tying in to the great hyperspace disaster that kicked off the entire story. It sounds like Sunshine Dobbs might have a role in this great era of galactic exploration.
