There are at least five shows from Lucasfilm coming to Disney+ this year, making it a huge year for the company and for Star Wars fans! But strangely, we know very little about when those shows will actually be airing. The Book of Boba Fett is ongoing… and then after that, we know nothing at all about dates for the rest of the year.
We know Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, The Bad Batch season two, and Willow are all coming this year, but we don’t know when. We have rough ideas or guesstimates, but nothing concrete. That’s a bit confusing and frustrating, but I’m hoping we’ll get clarity soon. In fact, the recent issue of Star Wars Insider may have given us a slight bit more information.
In an image from the issue posted on the Star Wars Leaks subreddit, The Bad Batch season two is listed as coming to Disney+ in “Spring 2022.” Again, that’s not super specific, but it’s more than we previously knew.
And it’s also earlier than previously expected. Many of us assumed that it would run throughout the summer, just like it did last year, and would come in-between Obi-Wan Kenobi (presumed in the spring) and Andor (presumed in the fall). But this has me wondering how all of those will fit together, and whether we were right in those assumptions. Of course, spring can mean a lot of things, so there’s still no specifics here, but this gives us a slightly better idea.
If I had to guess (and let me make it clear that it’s just a guess), I’d think The Bad Batch will still come after Kenobi but before Andor. I’d be pretty surprised if they dropped two shows simultaneously, and I’d also be surprised if Kenobi didn’t come until after The Bad Batch finishes up (since the latter is a longer season than the former). So here’s my guess: I think Obi-Wan Kenobi will run this spring sometime and finish up at some point before Star Wars Celebration, shortly after which The Bad Batch will begin. What this latest news suggests to me is that Kenobi might finish up well before Celebration instead of right before, which would allow The Bad Batch to get underway a bit earlier instead of right before June.
But this is all a guess, and I’m really hoping that Lucasfilm gives us some more concrete dates soon. Even if they can’t give us specific dates yet, maybe even a rough calendar and when to expect which show. Because right now, we don’t really know anything besides what shows that are coming. In the end, that’s enough… but it’d be nice to have a bit more.
