Temuera Morrison sounds interested in possibly portraying Rex or Cody in live-action

Long before starring as Boba Fett in The Book of Boba Fett, Temuera Morrison got his start in the Star Wars universe, portraying Jango Fett and the armies of clone troopers in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

That has given him a unique opportunity amongst Star Wars actors to be able to actually play a vast number of different characters, since he can play Jango, and also the clones of Jango that were made by the Kaminoans for the Republic – as well as Jango’s unaltered clone son, Boba. For example, after playing Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones, he played clones like Commander Cody in Revenge of the Sith.

So given those unique circumstances, it’s possible we’ll actually see Morrison return in a different role in addition to his ongoing work as Boba Fett. Such as, say, more clone troopers?

While he didn’t say whether we’ll see more of him beyond The Book of Boba Fett, Temuera Morrison did say in a recent interview with the Washington Post that he’d be interested in playing some other characters. “Well, there are people – I’m thinking of Captain Rex for one,” Morrison said. “He looks a little like me. There’s Commander Cody. What happened to those guys? There’s all those clone armies. That could be something fresh and new and exciting.”

That sounds to me like something that Morrison would be excited about doing, and it’s also notable that he’s already familiar with clones like Rex. He’s already played Cody, so perhaps that’s how he knows him, but he’s also well aware of Rex (and not only that, but to know Rex is a Captain and Cody is a Commander, too!). Rex has never appeared in any live-action projects and was created for The Clone Wars, so I think it’s cool that Morrison is familiar with him anyway.

Of course, if I can put my speculation cap on for just a moment, I wonder if this means he knows more than he’s letting on. After all, the article just said he’s “mum” on whether we’ll see more of him, which isn’t the same thing as a denial. And he also pulled out those two names, which is impressive. So I wonder if there’s more that he knows. With Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka coming soon, there seems to be ample opportunity to bring Cody and/or Rex into the fold should the showrunners want to, and especially the latter makes a ton of sense. And with Morrison already back starring in other shows, it would be easier to bring him into others as well. Consider me intrigued – and hopeful – that he’ll be playing one (or both) of these clones before long.
