Ivanna Sakhno has joined the cast of the upcoming Ahsoka series, which will begin production in the spring of 2022! The news was first reported by Deadline, but has since been confirmed by other outlets – and by Sakhno herself on Instagram.
Sakhno is best known for her role in Pacific Rim: Uprising and is the latest addition to the cast of the highly anticipated Star Wars series that will be coming to Disney+. The series will star Rosario Dawson in the role of fan favorite Ahsoka Tano, a main character of The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series who was brought to live action for the first time in The Mandalorian season two, played by Dawson. Another fan favorite character will be making the jump from animation to live action in the series, as Natasha Liu Bordizzo will reportedly star alongside Dawson as Sabine Wren. On top of that, it is reported that Hayden Christensen will be reprising his role of Anakin Skywalker for the series, for what I’m guessing will be an appearance as a Force ghost.
We don’t know anything about who Sakhno is playing or what kind of role she will have, but it sounds like she will be playing a brand new character. Deadline reported that she “will play a newly created character,” which is the same thing Variety said as well, saying that “it is believed to be a new character created for the series.” Star Wars fans are very quick to jump on casting announcements with a bunch of speculation about who the person might be playing (and it’s already happening with Sakhno’s casting), which is all part of the fun! I’m not bashing on that at all, but it sounds like here the speculation might not be as helpful, since it appears to be a character we don’t know.
Similarly, we don’t know a whole lot about what this show will be about, although it’s assumed that it will follow Ahsoka and Sabine as they search for Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn. The series is being helmed and written by Star Wars legend Dave Filoni, Execuitve Creative Director at Lucasfilm and a show runner on projects like The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett. Together with Jon Favreau, Filoni is overseeing the various shows spinning off from The Mandalorian, which includes The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and more.
