On Friday, November 12, Disney is celebrating the first Disney+ Day, and to celebrate it the company is releasing new content from all five of the streaming service’s major brands – which, of course, includes Star Wars!
In a release announcing the celebration and the various content that is coming that day, Disney revealed that for the Star Wars brand, we will be getting “a special celebrating the origins and legacy of Star Wars’ legendary bounty hunter, Boba Fett.”
So this sounds like a special that will tell the history of how Boba Fett came to be (and his first appearance in the Holiday Special, which was recently released on Disney+), as well as giving viewers a concise history of the character and why he’s become such a fan favorite. It’s not hard at all to see why this is advantageous for Disney to release on November 12, since in December we are getting the premiere of The Book of Boba Fett – which, of course, is all about the bounty hunter. He was brought back in The Mandalorian, but there he was a supporting character to Din Djarin and Grogu. Here, he’s going to be the main figure. So when taking a character who has never been a hugely prominent character in the films yet who has a massive legacy amongst fans, it makes a lot of sense to release a special letting fans catch up on the need-to-know details about Boba Fett.
But I also am going to speculate a bit here and say that we’ll probably get at least something about The Book of Boba Fett on this day as well. Consider, for instance, that Disney says this day will also include some other things:
“Subscribers to the service will be entertained with an inaugural Disney+ Day fan celebration on Disney+, which will include breaking news, first looks, new trailers, exclusive clips, and appearances from Disney+ creators and stars.”
Let’s connect the dots a bit. First, The Book of Boba Fett releases in December (three months away!) and we have had nothing by way of promotion. Absolutely nothing. Which means that the marketing campaign will surely begin soon. Second, Disney says there will be trailers, first looks, clips, and news on this day. Though no shows are mentioned, when there’s a new live-action series from one of the company’s most notable and significant properties releasing just a month later, it would honestly be shocking if we didn’t get anything for this series on that day. And third, it just so happens that the new Star Wars content celebrating this day has to do with Boba Fett. Convenient.
So I’m typically not one who insists that a trailer *must* be coming at a particular time, but I feel very confident in speculating that we will get a look at The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+ Day in November. We may have seen something already by that point, but if not, I can’t imagine that day coming and going without anything from the newest Star Wars series.
