A new High Republic audio original about the Nihil is coming this fall!

Another Star Wars: The High Republic project was announced last week, as Del Rey revealed that Cavan Scott is writing a new audio original about the Nihil, Tempest Runner.

It will release in the fall of 2021 and will feature Lourna Dee, one of the highest-ranking members within the Nihil. Lourna Dee is one of three Tempest Runners who lead the criminal group, alongside Marchion Ro. She appeared in Charles Soule’s novel Light of the Jedi, and this one will seemingly be the first story centered on the Nihil – which should make it very interesting.

The Nihil are (at least so far) the primary antagonist of the High Republic era, responsible for causing the Great Disaster and for causing evil and chaos in the wake of it as well. The Nihil have played a role in every High Republic story so far, and that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon, but their most significant role was in Light of the Jedi. That’s where we learned most of what we know so far about them, as well as were introduced to Marchion Ro and the leadership of the organization. Upon reading that book, many – including myself – were extremely curious to learn more about the Nihil and see them in future stories, and that seems to be coming.

But getting a story specifically focused on them will be great! I’m excited to see more of the inner-workings of the Nihil, and it will be fascinating to get a look at the era more through their eyes rather than the eyes of the Jedi or the Republic. Cavan Scott seems like the perfect choice to take on this project, given his familiarity with the High Republic (he wrote the short story The Great Jedi Rescue, the upcoming novel The Rising Storm, and the ongoing comic series Star Wars: The High Republic) as well as his familiarity with audio dramas (he wrote Dooku: Jedi Lost). The Star Wars audio dramas produced so far have been fantastic, and Dooku: Jedi Lost might be the best of them all, so I’m super excited to see what Scott and the rest of the team do with this one!
