Hayden Christensen is returning to Star Wars!
The news was revealed by Lucasfilm President Kathy Kennedy today, as Christensen will be playing Darth Vader in the upcoming series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. “This will be the rematch of the century,” Kennedy teased.
In a statement to StarWars.com, Christensen said,
“It was such an incredible journey playing Anakin Skywalker. Of course, Anakin and Obi-Wan weren’t on the greatest of terms when we last saw them… It will be interesting to see what an amazing director like Deborah Chow has in store for us all. I’m excited to work with Ewan again. It feels good to be back.”
It feels really good to have him back. I’m extremely curious to see what showrunner Deborah Chow does with this series, and Kennedy’s tease has me especially interested. Will we actually see a battle between Obi-Wan and Vader? I’m not sure how I’d feel about that, but it’s something that some have wondered about, since by the time of A New Hope Obi-Wan seems totally convinced that he can’t save Anakin. What led to that? Maybe we’ll see that.
I also wonder if we could see Christensen playing Anakin Skywalker in this series, as I’ve long speculated that we could see some flashbacks to the Clone Wars. That would be really cool too.
But regardless of the direction, I am just so thrilled that we’re getting Ewan McGregor AND Hayden Christensen back for this series! I can’t wait!
Absolutely awesome! This is the most exciting news by far. Can’t wait!
