Disney might announce new Star Wars projects on Thursday, reportedly will be “significant expansion” of the universe

On Thursday, December 10, Disney is doing an Investor Day to appraise people of where the company is at and where it’s going, so it will be a very significant day for fans.

Obviously one of the biggest things people are anxious to hear is what Disney plans to do with theatrical releases in 2021, and we’ll surely get more clarity on that. But we also will likely get announcements about future projects, and that includes Lucasfilm.

Media outlets have been teasing that there will be Star Wars announcements made, and the New York Times today teased “a significant expansion of the Star Wars universe.”

So yeah, Star Wars fans will probably want to be paying attention tomorrow, as we may very well be getting some announcements about what is to come to the galaxy far, far away. The Mandalorian season three, the Cassian Andor live-action series, the Kenobi live-action series, and The Bad Batch animated series have all been announced, so we know that they’re going to be coming soon. But there have been tons of rumors about other things that could be coming to the universe, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we get information about some of them.

What could they be? Well I don’t want to read too much into the specific wording used, but that tease from the NYT mentioning “expansion” has me wondering if it could be something Thrawn related, picking up on the fact that he was perhaps the Expanded Universe’s greatest creation. That’s the way that Dave Filoni first re-introduced him to canon, at that Rebels panel at Celebration, teasing the trailer by saying, “let’s expand the universe a bit.” With The Mandalorian recently name-dropping Thrawn, it’s likely that it’s going somewhere – so maybe we’ll get more information about that.

Or maybe I’m just reading too much into the specific wording used. Other projects that have been rumored in recent months (with varying credibility) have been a Boba Fett live-action series, a series that sees Rosario Dawson return as Ahsoka Tano, an animated Rebels sequel, an animated High Republic show, and more. In other words, it’s probable that Lucasfilm has a lot of Star Wars content in the works. And maybe we’ll get a bit of a look behind the curtain tomorrow.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up just yet, but I would be paying very close attention tomorrow. I’ll have it all covered here if/when anything is announced!
