Diego Luna confirms that the Cassian Andor show is currently filming!

While all of the attention right now is on the current live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, another one is currently filming.

In a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Diego Luna confirmed that he is in London filming the Cassian Andor series. “It’s basically everything you have to know to understand Rogue One,” he said. “So the story of the character before, and how – I mean, I can’t spoil the ending, I guess.”

The reason he can’t spoil the ending is because we already know the ending, as told in Rogue One: Andor helps lead a strike team to Scariff to steal the Death Star plans. They succeed, but lose their lives in the process. But in a way, Andor is excited about telling a story in which we already know the ending, as it takes some of the pressure off: “It’s nice going to a story you already know the ending [of], then you take care of the little nuances and the layers and I think it’s fun to do something that is not just about getting to the end, but it’s about delaying that.”

The show stars Luna in his return to the role, and reportedly will have Toby Haynes as director and Tony Gilroy as showrunner and executive producer. Alan Tudyk will also return to the role of K-2SO, and it has been reported that Genevieve O’Reilly will return as Mon Mothma, alongside newcomers Stellan Skarsgard, Denise Gough, and Kyle Soller. The show had been slated for a 2021 release, and it would seem that’s still on track, though obviously things can change due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Regardless, Lucasfilm is forging ahead with their live-action shows, as the Cassian Andor show is filming now and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series should begin filming soon. It’s a very exciting time to be a Star Wars fan!
