Merchandise reveals two new characters from The Rise of Skywalker!

On Thursday, Star Wars hosted a live stream revealing new merchandise for Triple Force Friday, and as part of it they actually revealed two new characters from The Rise of Skywalker!

The first of these characters is an alien named Boolio. He is included as a minifigure in the Millennium Falcon LEGO set, alongside Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, C-3PO, Finn, R2-D2, and D-O. He is a green alien with yellow horns and wearing an orange jumpsuit, and the actors on the Triple Force Friday stream didn’t want to reveal anything about him.

So we unfortunately don’t know anything more about Boolio, but we do now at least have a glimpse of him as well as his name. But this actually isn’t our first look at him. It’s our first official look, but if you remember the reference photos that leaked way back in February by JediPaxis on Reddit, Boolio is on that! We didn’t know his name or anything about him then, but we now know at least his name.

One word of caution is that LEGO sometimes is a bit liberal with their minifig usage in these sets, so we can’t take this as 100% confirmation that he’s a part of this Falcon crew. But I do think it’s safe to say that he’ll be on the Falcon with our heroes, and if I had to guess, I would say that he probably is a companion of Lando.

Babu Frik:

The second new character is an alien named Babu Frik. He is an accessory to the C-3PO Black Series figure – a figure that itself is intriguing because of 3PO wearing Chewbacca’s bandolier. Frik is an incredibly tiny little alien, and he has a visor that can be raised or lowered over his eyes.

Anthony Daniels spoke of how much he loves Frik, but the cast didn’t give any information as to what Frik’s role may be. However, based on Daniels’ comment and the fact that Frik is included with 3PO, I think it’s safe to say that C-3PO and Babu Frik share screentime in TROS. But what could his role be?

We actually might know.

But before we continue, I want to make it clear that I’m going to share some details that have been reported by reputable sources and thus very well might be spoilers. They’re far from proven, but they did have the name correct before this official release, and I think it’s quite possible these reports/leaks are right. So if you don’t want to take the chance of potentially seeing spoilers, don’t read any further!

Ok, so Making Star Wars’s Jason Ward and JediPaxis at the StarWarsLeaks subreddit have both reported on the scene that seems to be where Frik appears in the film – and it’s also the explanation for why we see C-3PO with the red eyes in the latest TROS sizzle reel.

Basically, it goes like this: our heroes retrieve a Sith dagger that is supposedly very significant to the plot of the film and the backstory of Rey, and it has Sith writing on it. C-3PO can’t initially read it, but the heroes find Zorri Bliss, who introduces them to Babu Frik, who can hack 3PO’s memory and allow the droid to read the ancient language. But if they were to do this, 3PO’s memory would be wiped. C-3PO voluntarily submits to this for the sake of his friends, and when the hacking is completed, his eyes glow red, and he can read the Sith writing on the dagger. This points our heroes to the location of Palpatine’s wayfinder device (the hunt for which seems to be the key driving force for much of the first half of the movie or so), but 3PO’s memory is wiped and he reboots. According to these reports, this whole scene with 3PO will be one of the most emotional moments in the entire movie.

So that’s reportedly where Babu Frik comes in, and it thus makes perfect sense why he’d be included in the same package. But like always, we’ll have to wait until December to see if these reports are actually correct.
