Surprisingly, there weren’t many announcements when it came to Star Wars publishing at Celebration this weekend, but there was a mysterious announcement that came at Monday’s publishing panel.
The panel featured five authors – Claudia Gray (“Lost Stars”; “Bloodline”; “Leia: Princess of Alderaan”; “Master and Apprentice”), Justina Ireland (“Lando’s Luck”), Daniel José Older (“Last Shot”), Cavan Scott (four books in the “Adventures in Wild Space” series; “Star Wars Adventures” comics; “Dooku: Jedi Lost”), and Charles Soule (Poe Dameron and Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith comics) – and after discussing many things about publishing, they announced a new project.
There were photos shown of multiple visits that the group took to Skywalker ranch, and on the screen they showed the words, “The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things.” After that, the word “Until…” appeared, followed by a logo of “Project Luminous,” a Jedi logo, and the “2020” date.
No additional details were shared, as the authors wouldn’t discuss the content or the medium for this project. However, the quote and the Jedi logo suggest that it’s a project that will probably focus on the Jedi and/or the Force. I have seen some people speculating that this might be a sort-of “From a Certain Point of View” project to commemorate the anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, while I’ve seen others suggesting that it might be a unified series of books. Both of those would be really cool, but we really don’t have any information. So we’ll just have to wait and see what this mysterious project with these several established authors turns out to be.
