Amidst all of the other talk at Celebration, one little tidbit was revealed in an interview that Matthew Wood did with the Star Wars Show Live.
Wood, a sound editor whose Star Wars work is very extensive, was discussing all that he’s working on this year, and he slipped in that a new LEGO Star Wars game is in development: “Well 2019 is crazy insane, I can’t believe so many things we’re doing right now, I mean we’ve got Resistance going, Clone Wars going, we’ve got Mandalorian happening, of course Episode IX happening, there’s a LEGO Star Wars game we’re working on, …”
The interview went on from there, but notice the very interesting part about the LEGO Star Wars game. We obviously knew all about Resistance, The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, and The Rise of Skywalker, but we had heard nothing about a new LEGO game. But I think it’s really cool that it’s apparently happening.
I’ve seen a number of people saying that they have heard rumors recently about a massive Star Wars LEGO game that will be coming, and I think that makes a lot of sense. If I had to guess, I would think that next year (in 2020) there would be a new LEGO Star Wars game released that goes over the entire Skywalker saga. We didn’t get a LEGO game for The Last Jedi or for any of the standalone films, and I’d love to see them re-do and re-master the entire saga for a new LEGO game, with all nine trilogy films, the standalones, the shows, etc. It would be awesome. I don’t know what the scope of the project will be, but it seems like next year would be a good time to release a game that encompasses the entire saga.
That makes a lot of sense to me, and it sounds like a new LEGO Star Wars game is indeed in the works. Hopefully we’ll hear more official word about it soon!
