One week from today, we’ll get our first look at Star Wars: Episode IX!

The countdown is certainly on now.  Star Wars fans have been waiting a while for any sort of news about this December’s highly-anticipated Episode IX, but all along it was expected that our first look at the film would come at Celebration.

Well now, Celebration is only one week away.  Next week thousands of Star Wars fans will gather in Chicago for the biggest Celebration yet, and there will be panels for Episode IX, The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars, Resistance, Rebels, The Phantom Menace, publishing, etc.  There will be a ton of new information and footage shown next week across these panels, and I can’t wait!

But the most anticipated of all of them is the panel about Episode IX, which will kick things off next Friday, April 12, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  The hour-long panel will feature Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Episode IX director J.J. Abrams, as well as many other guests – which probably includes many of the stars of the film.  Here’s what you should expect from this panel:

TONS OF INFO.  Much of the panel will certainly be Kennedy, Abrams, and others discussing the film, so you can count on plenty of information to be revealed – while at the same time not really revealing much at all.  For example, at The Last Jedi panel at Celebration a few years ago, we got teases as to what Luke Skywalker would be like when Rey first meets him, we were introduced to Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose, etc.  So I’m sure that we’ll get plenty of interesting little tidbits, and perhaps even a character reveal or two, but don’t expect anything significant to be revealed about the plot.  Basically, expect a ton of interesting teases from those involved on the production.

A TITLE.  If we were ever going to get anything about Episode IX before Celebration it would’ve been a title, but Lucasfilm has apparently chosen to save even that.  But I can’t imagine that we’ll get all of this stuff without a title, so this is probably the last week that we’ll be referring to this film primarily as Episode IX.  We’ll get the official title one week from today, and my only real question is whether they’ll reveal this title early on in the panel – thus being able to use it throughout when they’re talking – or whether they’ll reveal it at the end of the trailer, Avengers: Endgame style.

A TRAILER.  The most anticipated part of all of this, almost certainly be getting a trailer.  There has been some footage screened for other audiences privately, but a week from today will be the first public footage from Episode IX.  It’ll likely be a teaser-style trailer, but we should get plenty of interesting moments, some awesome visuals, and a few teases to go with emotional and heartwarming shots.  By way of comparison, the analogous teaser for The Force Awakens ended with Han and Chewie arriving on the Falcon, with Han saying “Chewie, we’re home;” while the teaser for The Last Jedi ended with Luke saying, “it’s time for the Jedi to end.”  So these teasers have certainly given us a ton to talk about, and part of me wonders if this teaser will end with a shot of Carrie Fisher, since the previous ones ended with Han and Luke and since that would be sure to get a huge reaction from the crowd at Celebration.  But we’ll have to see – the main point is that a week from today we’ll get our first look at Episode IX!!!

A POSTER.  I also imagine that we’ll get the first poster for Episode IX at this panel.  This probably won’t be that alleged leaked poster, since that looked much more like a promotional poster than the official one that Lucasfilm will reveal, but I expect that we’ll also get a poster for this film next week.

Whatever is revealed next week, we’ll have full coverage of all of it here, breaking it all down and talking about it from all angles.  I can’t wait, and after all of this silence, a week from today we’ll finally get our first look at the final chapter of the Skywalker saga.  It should be epic.  You won’t want to miss this panel.
