Galaxy’s Edge will open this summer at Disney Land and Disney World, and it’s obviously a huge deal for Star Wars, as this massive theme park will be opening up to give fans the experience of being in a galaxy far, far away.
Lucasfilm is doing a terrific job of developing an entire backstory for this experience, which will take place on the planet Batuu at Black Spire Outpost during the events of the sequel trilogy, where the Resistance and the First Order will both have a presence. To further explore the backstory of this location, Star Wars recently announced a number of books and comics that will tie-in.
The headliner of that group is the novel entitled “Black Spire,” written by Delilah S. Dawson. The description for this book announced was that, “In this novel, a prequel to the Disney Parks experience, General Leia Organa dispatches her top spy to Batuu in a desperate search for Resistance allies.” Immediately upon reading that, I wondered whether the story would focus on Vi Moradi – and it has now been confirmed that it does.
The cover for this book, which releases on August 27, was recently revealed – featuring Moradi front and center.
You can read the full description of the book here, but it confirms that Vi Moradi is the “top spy” whom General Leia Organa sends out. The description mentions the Resistance’s “heavy losses” and that Leia is sending out her agents to search for allies, which gives the impression that this will actually take place after the events of The Last Jedi. Moradi finds Batuu, but soon a stormtrooper contingent arrives as well, leaving Moradi to team up with those on Batuu to light the spark of the Resistance.
For those who are unfamiliar with Vi Moradi, she was first introduced in Delilah S. Dawson’s previous Star Wars novel “Phasma,” in which Moradi is captured by the First Order and interrogated by Captain Cardinal as to the origins of Captain Phasma. So it makes sense that Dawson would want to return to the character, and it makes sense within the context of Galaxy’s Edge, since Moradi is reportedly going to play a role.
I’m excited about this book for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it will provide more tie-in information regarding Galaxy’s Edge, which is a cool thing. Secondly, it will explore further the character of Vi Moradi. And thirdly, it figures to be a look at the post-TLJ world, which obviously will help lead up to Episode IX as well.
