25 characters I’d like to see added to Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes

Since I’ve recently started writing a bit about the popular mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, I thought I’d put together a quick list of 25 characters who I’d really love to see come to the game.

These characters range from those for whom there’s no legitimate explanation for why they’re not already in the game to those who I would guess never will make it to the game at all.  They range from characters who are widely desired and requested to those who, I’d guess, have a small group of support of which I’m a part.  They range from the biggest players in the Star Wars saga to side characters.  They range from characters who deserve massive hype and big events to characters who could just be released through a marquee event.

But regardless of what the situation is, these are 25 characters who I’d really, really like to see added to the game.

25. Rebel Rex

Screen Shot 2018-01-19 at 5.16.17 PM

We already have a version of Captain Rex in this game (and he remains a strong character), but it would also be cool to see the older version of Rex make its way into the game as well.  Rex eventually joined the Rebellion and worked with Phoenix Squadron, and he later fought in the Battle of Endor.  I think it would be fun to get this version of Rex in the game.

24. Scout Trooper

Screen Shot 2018-09-18 at 3.50.12 PM.png

The Imperial Troopers are a very fun faction to play with already, and that’s without one of my very favorite troopers: the Scout Trooper.  The frustrating thing about this is that the Scout Trooper has been in the game for a long time as an enemy unit, but has never been a playable character.  I’d hope for this to change, so that we could add the Scout Trooper to our Imperial Trooper collections.

23. Iden Versio

Screen Shot 2018-09-18 at 3.43.55 PM.png

The main character of the Battlefront II campaign, I’m actually very surprised that we never got Iden Versio in this game as a tie-in.  It would’ve made a lot of sense, and considering that she never came to the game in association with the game’s release I’d guess that she won’t ever make it to the game.  But that’s a shame, because she’s a really cool character with a number of useful abilities.  The developers would have to decide whether to align her with the Empire or with the Rebellion, but either way she’d be a cool character to have.

22. Droideka

Screen Shot 2018-09-18 at 3.38.38 PM

The droid faction in this game still needs some help, and one of the coolest-looking droids that could be added is a Droideka.  Also known as Destroyer Droids, these droids were quite dangerous because they had their own shield generators to protect them.  Because of this, they’d be pretty cool and unique to add to the game.  They have blasters and thus can attack, but imagine a mechanic that factors in their shields.  Such as, perhaps, a character a low overall health pool but high protection and an ability that, when used, generates a shield – the Droideka taunts but is immune to damage during the duration of this shield, which could last for a turn or two.  Something like that might be very interesting.

21. Darth Malak

Screen Shot 2018-09-18 at 3.35.59 PM.png

Malak, the former Jedi turned Sith Lord, was a major figure in the Knights of the Old Republic game.  This year, we’ve gotten plenty of characters from that game already, and while it seems obvious that it’s leading us to an event for Revan, Darth Malak would be a terrific addition to the game as well.  The Sith don’t exactly need a ton of help right now, but eventually I think Malak should make his way to the game.

20. Ki-Adi Mundi

Screen Shot 2018-09-17 at 10.58.02 PM

If Ki-Adi Mundi ever comes into this game, he should have significant Wookiee synergy to not ignore them, right?  Ok, I kid about that, but nonetheless Mundi would be one of the top additions that could be made for the Jedi faction currently.  He wouldn’t be a faction-changing character, but he was a member of the Jedi High Council and a respected General during the Clone Wars.  If we’re ever going to get a significant Jedi emphasis again and if several new characters are going to be added (such as in a series of marquees, for instance), then Mundi figures to be one of the best choices.

19. Shaak Ti

Screen Shot 2018-09-17 at 10.49.41 PM.png

One of the most influential Jedi not in this game, Shaak Ti served as a master on the Jedi High Council, was an esteemed military leader, and oversaw the production of the Clone Army on Kamino.  She shouldn’t be a faction-changing character, but Shaak Ti would be a really nice addition to help bolster the Jedi in this game.

18. Mon Mothma

Screen Shot 2018-07-06 at 12.12.39 AM

It may seem weird to want Mon Mothma included in this game, but she is a vital member of the Rebel Alliance.  In fact, she leads the Rebellion, and is the first Chancellor of the New Republic.  She is a crucial figure for the Rebellion, and would make a terrific Rebel leader in this game.  She may not be an attacker, but she could provide invaluable assists and support for Rebel allies, rallying them to the cause and boosting the entire team as a whole.

17. Boushh Leia

Screen Shot 2018-09-17 at 10.33.48 PM.png

We have ten bounty hunters in the game… but none of them are light side characters.  You know what would be interesting?  Adding a character with bounty hunter synergies but also is a light side character, and Boushh Leia would accomplish that.  Sure, she’s not technically a bounty hunter, but I’d be willing to overlook that for the purposes of this game.  But either way, she looks pretty cool and would be a genuinely good use of another iteration of a character, as Boushh Leia is totally different than the other Leias we have in this game.

16. Jabba the Hutt

Screen Shot 2018-09-17 at 10.13.06 PM.png

The bounty hunters have received quite a bit of attention recently, which is pretty awesome.  Jango Fett coming to the game is a massive addition, but there’s one that might be more massive (at least character model-wise): Jabba the Hutt.  This might not be the traditional one you’d think of in a game featuring plenty of fighters, but Jabba the Hutt employs so many bounty hunters and is a significant figure in the Star Wars universe.  He could be a Hermit Yoda-like support character for Bounty Hunters, calling allies to assist, giving out buffs, cleansing, healing, etc.  And as a leader, he could have a very strong contract that significantly rewards bounty hunters for completing it.

15. Pilot Luke Skywalker (plus Luke’s X-Wing)

Screen Shot 2018-09-18 at 4.06.31 PM.png

Though we have two iterations of Luke Skywalker in this game, we don’t have one who is a pilot.  And while with Anakin Skywalker, for instance, I could see CG/EA simply making Jedi Knight Anakin the pilot of his Jedi Starfighter (with R2-D2), I’m not sure either version of Luke in-game would get the same treatment.  Instead, we could simply get a new version of Luke Skywalker: one wearing his orange pilot jumpsuit, and who uses both his blaster and blue lightsaber.  He could help on a Rebel squad, but more importantly he could pilot (with R2) his X-Wing.  This would give Luke a ship, and would give us another cool version of the iconic Star Wars character.

14. Clone Wars Maul

Screen Shot 2018-05-17 at 2.57.22 PM

Maul is such an awesome character, and he really gets a ton more characterization in The Clone Wars, Solo, and Rebels.  This is a much different version of Maul than the one we already have in the game: this Maul is no Sith, and he’s a crime lord.  He’s still a deadly and dangerous threat to Jedi, but he’s basically out to survive and for revenge.  He’s got robotic legs, and he’s got a new lightsaber (and he could even use the darksaber for this character model, too).  There’s a lot that could be done with this iteration of Maul, and he’d be really cool to play as.

13. Hondo Ohnaka

Screen Shot 2018-09-17 at 10.02.51 PM.png

A recurring figure in The Clone Wars and Rebels, Hondo has become a fan favorite.  Of course, while he could have synergies with smugglers and scoundrels (thus giving him synergies with bounty hunters), he must have a new tag of “pirate,” because that much more accurately defines Hondo.  It would be cool to introduce pirates (maybe even as a neutral character, since that tag is now in the game but not yet used?), and in order to make Hondo really work we might need a couple of his pirate thugs in the game too, but regardless it would be awesome to see Hondo make his way to the game.

12. General Hux (plus the Finalizer)

Screen Shot 2018-08-21 at 3.20.55 PM

We have plenty of generic First Order characters, which is fine.  I’m not against having more generic characters like a First Order Officer, a First Order Stormtrooper, a First Order TIE Pilot, etc., but they should also complement those characters with some of the named figures who play important roles.  One of those for the First Order is General Hux, one of the highest-ranking members in the entire First Order.  He commands their fleet and oversees the stormtrooper training, and he could make a nice First Order leader and support figure.  But perhaps the most significant thing that Hux could bring to the game is another capital ship, his flagship the Finalizer.  Hux would be a good addition for a First Order squad, but he could also make a huge difference for First Order ships (and the TIE Silencer is already a pretty good ship in the first place).

11. Praetorian Guard

Screen Shot 2018-09-13 at 8.32.13 PM.png

If you’ve been playing SWGOH for a while, you might remember a day and age where the Royal Guard was part of the meta.  His auto taunt once allies lose a certain percentage of health really helped, and while they gradually fell out of favor, I think it’d be really cool to introduce the newer version of them: the Praetorian Guard!  Ok, so they might not exactly trace their roots back to the Royal Guards, but they nonetheless would be really cool to play as in this game.  Give them synergy with Supreme Leader Snoke (spoiler alert for later on in this list) and make them an interesting dynamic of attackers combined with protectors (like a tank).  There’s a lot that could be done with Praetorian Guards – plus, they just look cool!

10. Rukh

Screen Shot 2018-03-06 at 3.59.44 PM

Ok, I’ll be honest: Rukh probably wouldn’t make too many of these lists if other people made them.  But I love Rukh, and I love thinking about what he could be like in the game.  Grand Admiral Thrawn is, in my opinion, the best character in the game, and he’s also one of my favorites.  He fits in pretty much any lineup.  But what about introducing a character with whom Thrawn has exceptionally strong synergy?  His assassin Rukh would fit this really well, and would make perfect sense to be brought to a game of warriors.  Rukh’s stealth and attacking ability would easily translate to this game, giving him great synergy with Thrawn.  I’m not sure if we’ll ever actually get Rukh or not, but I’d love for him to be brought to this game.

9. Pre-Suit Darth Vader

Screen Shot 2018-09-13 at 8.22.05 PM.png

Darth Vader is already in the game, and he’s a pretty good toon too.  But what many people have suggested is a dark side hero’s journey for Darth Vader, before the suit.  This was perhaps the apex of Skywalker/Vader’s power, and he’s the central figure of the main saga.  So it would make sense to bring another iteration of Vader, bridging the gap from the Jedi Knight Anakin and Darth Vader that we already have.  The only caution I have here is that I’m not so sure right now is the best time to introduce him.  The Sith are already super strong right now and are the meta team, whether with an Emperor Palpatine lead or a Darth Traya lead.  Either way, between Palpatine, Traya, Sion, Nihilus, Vader, Sith Trooper, Maul, etc., there are plenty of viable Sith.  So I wouldn’t mind them waiting on pre-suit Darth Vader for a while, waiting for the Sith to go out of the meta, then waiting a bit longer, and then introducing Vader to once more allow the Sith to rule the holotables.

8. Supreme Leader Snoke

Screen Shot 2018-07-27 at 11.52.27 PM

The First Order is a good faction and is particularly useful in some areas of the game, especially thanks to Kylo Ren Unmasked.  But they’re still lacking that character to really push them over the top to make them great, and there’s a couple of noteworthy omissions from a First Order squad.  As we’ve already discussed, bringing General Hux and the Praetorian Guard to the game would be really good ideas, but the biggest First Order addition possible would be Supreme Leader Snoke.  The feared leader of the First Order, Snoke was quite powerful and strong with the Force.  He would be a terrific addition to a First Order squad and one that, quite frankly, I’m surprised we haven’t gotten yet.  It’s not like they’re going to be able to release him as hype for Episode IX, since he’s dead, so it’s strange that they’ve waited this long.

7. Revan

Screen Shot 2018-09-13 at 6.29.43 PM

[UPDATE: Jedi Knight Revan has arrived!]

A fan favorite from Knights of the Old Republic, there may only be one character more anticipated by the community than Darth Revan (and we’ll get to him a bit later).  It makes sense, too: not only is Revan an awesome character and not only would he be a ton of fun to play as in this game, the gaming community in particular loves Revan.  I’m sure EA/CG won’t release Revan until they’ve figured out a way to monetize that excitement, but the signs are there that he may be coming soon, with a number of Old Republic characters introduced to the game at around the same time.  With Bastilla Shan and Jolee Bindo just becoming farmable, the panic farm is beginning for many fans despite no official announcement about Revan… yet.  Regardless of when he comes (and it should be soon), Revan will be a great addition to the game.  One of the most interesting questions about Revan will be about his allegiances, as he could be either light or dark.  We’ll have to see how EA/CG would handle this, but there’s a lot of different options that could be unique and intriguing.

6. Luke Skywalker (Hermit/Jedi Master)

Screen Shot 2018-07-06 at 5.28.45 PM

One character that I’m not at all surprised we haven’t gotten but think would be a really anticipated addition to the game is an older Luke Skywalker.  There are actually a couple of really intriguing possibilities that could be done with this character: they could do Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, with the white Jedi robes; they could do Hermit Luke Skywalker, with the dark Ahch-To outfit from The Last Jedi; or they could do Force Projection Luke Skywalker, with the younger Luke holding the Skywalker lightsaber.  Any of those three would be really cool (and I’d only expect them to add one, since it seems hard for them to put any Lukes in the game in the first place), and I’d be super pumped about it.

5. Padme Amidala

Screen Shot 2018-09-13 at 3.19.44 PM.png

One of the most notable Star Wars characters to not be in the game whatsoever is Padme Amidala.  One of the major protagonists of the prequel trilogy and The Clone Wars, Padme is noticeably and curiously absent from the game.  She’s a major figure for the Galactic Republic, an ally of Anakin Skywalker, a bold and daring leader and a dangerous attacker.  Hopefully Padme (ideally from the Arena Battle in Attack of the Clones) makes her way to this game soon.

4. C-3PO

Screen Shot 2018-09-13 at 3.13.59 PM.png

One of the classic Star Wars characters, C-3PO is not yet in the game.  Unlike the next few choices, however, it’s actually conceivable why he’s not yet: what would he do?  In this game of fighters, C-3PO doesn’t really strike fear into you as a soldier.  But this game has more than just attackers, and C-3PO could be an incredibly valuable ally to a number of factions, like R2-D2 is: C-3PO could have synergies with the Galactic Republic, Rebel, Resistance, Droid, and Ewok factions – making him a very valuable and versatile support character.  His kit would likely be filled with buffs, debuffs, assists, and perhaps heals rather than attacks, but we have precedent (like with Hermit Yoda).  There’s a lot that could be done with 3PO, and he should be in this game.

3. Rebel Chewbacca

Screen Shot 2018-09-13 at 3.10.13 PM.png

[UPDATE: Chewbacca has arrived!]

If I told you that there were three iterations of Chewbacca in this game but not one of them was a Rebel, would you believe me?  Probably not, but that’s the reality.  The original Chewbacca in this game is Clone Wars Chewbacca, and since then we’ve gotten Veteran Smuggler Chewbacca (from the sequel trilogy) and Vandor Chewbacca (from Solo: A Star Wars Story).  Yet no Chewbacca with a Rebel tag.  That’s crazy.  That version of Chewie is actually in the game as a character you can play against, but not that you can play with or unlock.  But giving Chewie awesome synergy with Raid Han Solo (think Baze/Chirrut-like synergy), while introducing a Millennium Falcon piloted by Han and Chewie (which, despite the two Falcons in the game, isn’t in it yet… again, crazy), is a must.

2. General Leia Organa (plus the Raddus)

Screen Shot 2018-07-27 at 5.01.45 PM

The Resistance faction doesn’t exactly need help in the game right now, particularly in the leader spot, as Jedi Training Rey and Finn are two very good leaders for an already strong faction.  But if the movies are any inspiration, we know that the success of the Resistance depends heavily on General Leia Organa.  The leader of the Resistance, it’s kind of surprising that Leia from the sequel trilogy isn’t already in the game.  We only have two versions of Leia, and adding the General would be an obvious one.  She could be a valuable and resilient Resistance leader, but she could also command the Raddus, a new capital ship.  Some might argue that Holdo should be the pilot of this capital ship, but Leia commands the entire fleet.  They should introduce General Leia as a resilient Resistance leader and as a much-needed light-side capital ship leader.

1. Jedi Luke Skwalker

Screen Shot 2018-07-17 at 5.06.36 PM

This one is an absolute no-brainer, and I’d guess that those who don’t play the game would be surprised to find out that a Star Wars game that is nearly three years old and that has 161 different characters doesn’t have the most iconic iteration of the most iconic hero in the Star Wars universe.  But it’s true: there is no Luke Skywalker in the game with a Jedi tag.  This one is the safest bet to be arriving to the game at some point, and this is the one character above all others that I’d guess many people expect to be and hope is O.P. (overpowered).  At the time Commander Luke Skywalker (Bespin Luke) was released last year he was the most powerful character the game had ever seen, and they’ll need to top that with Jedi Luke Skywalker.  This is the one we’ve been waiting for: the one with the Jedi synergy, with the green lightsaber, with the black ROTJ outfit.  It’s kind of crazy he’s not already in the game, but he’ll surely be coming at some point.  The only question is when.
