Hello, what have we here?
As has been his custom since taking over the role of director for the untitled Han Solo movie in June, Ron Howard shared a photo on social media from the set on Saturday that surely has some interest to fans: Donald Glover has wrapped filming!
Glover is playing one of the Star Wars franchise’s iconic characters in Lando Calrissian, who was portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Glover will take up the mantle of a younger Calrissian in the Han Solo film, which is set sometime before A New Hope.
Though Alden Ehrenreich is playing Han Solo, Glover’s Calrissian figures to be one of the main characters of the movie. We will likely find out more about Han and Lando’s relationship and origins, as well as perhaps find out how it all went down with Han winning the Millennium Falcon from Lando.
We’ll see plenty of Han, Lando, and Chewbacca (played by Joonas Suotamo) in this movie, which makes it significnat that Glover has wrapped filming. If one of the main characters of the film is done, it likely means that things will be winding down pretty soon. Ron Howard took over production in June and deserves a lot of credit for getting things back on track and staying with a presumed May 2018 release. Howard has shared plenty of looks from the set on social media before, including a look at Glover in costume as Calrissian:
Glover seems to have nailed the look of Lando Calrissian, and his performance is one of the things that has me most excited about this movie. We still don’t know much about it, but it seems that filming is winding down – which could mean we’ll know much more soon!
