There’s some exciting news for fans of the Star Wars sequel trilogy that was announced today, as Charles Soule revealed that he is writing another Kylo Ren comic, titled The Fall of Kylo Ren.
The five-issue mini-series (drawn by Will Sliney) will launch in August and will bring Kylo Ren right up to the beginning of The Rise of Skywalker, where we see him hunting rumors of the Emperor’s return. In this comic, he will continue to rule (and rage) as the First Order’s Supreme Leader, while General Pryde and General Hux engage in a more subtle battle for ambition and power.
This is a return to the character of Kylo Ren for Soule and Sliney, marking a trilogy of stories told about one of the sequel trilogy’s main characters. It began with the four-part The Rise of Kylo Ren in 2020, telling the story of Ben Solo’s fall to the dark side, his rebellion against Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Order, his alliance with the Knights of Ren, and his joining Supreme Leader Snoke. The next chapter in Soule’s Kylo Ren was Legacy of Vader, a twelve-part comic about Kylo’s reign as the Supreme Leader of the First Order in-between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. In that series Kylo battled his inner demons and family legacy, and we began to see cracks emerge in his commitment to darkness.
This new series, The Fall of Kylo Ren, will continue that story and bring us up to The Rise of Skywalker. And that helps us understand it’s title: Kylo Ren will fall, but Ben Solo will return. At least in comics, for now… but hopefully in other ways, eventually.
