From its very beginning, Indiana Jones has had a lot in common with Star Wars, especially since the two franchises share a common creator and common star.
The fifth and final chapter, Dial of Destiny, is certainly no different. It’s Lucasfilm’s first non-Star Wars theatrical film they’ve developed since Disney bought the company, but it still has plenty of similar faces as Star Wars. Let me mention just a few of them:
- Harrison Ford – Most obvious, of course, is the star who plays Indiana Jones himself. He’s now played the famous archaeologist in five movies, the same amount of times he’s played the equally famous scoundrel Han Solo. There’s no actor with a deeper resume of working with Lucasfilm than Ford, and these two roles are not just his most famous, but two of the most iconic in all of movie history.
- George Lucas – The creator of both franchises, George Lucas is an executive producer on Dial of Destiny. His return seems to have flown under the radar quite a bit, but this is the first Lucasfilm project he’s actually been credited as working on since selling the company. He receives a “created by” credit, of course, but his involvement on this movie was more. He and Steven Spielberg both returned to executive produce the movie, which is really cool.
- Kathleen Kennedy – The President of Lucasfilm and one of the most accomplished producers in movie history, Kennedy has worked on all five Indiana Jones movies and is once again a producer for this one, alongside her husband, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel. As the company’s president, she has been involved in the Star Wars projects since 2012, accruing quite a resume of hits in the process.
- John Williams – The legendary composer is back for his fifth Indiana Jones score, and he’s of course also scored all nine Skywalker saga films in the Star Wars franchise. If there’s been one constant across the years, it’s John Williams and the fact that he never misses when it comes to a musical score. His legacy is unmatched.
- Mads Mikkelson – One of the newcomers to the franchise in Dial of Destiny is Mikkelson, who plays the villainous Jürgen Voller. He previously played Galen Erso in Rogue One, so he’s the latest in a long line of actors to cross over between the franchises. As an additional fun fact, his brother, Lars, voices Grand Admiral Thrawn in Rebels and portrays him live-action in the upcoming Ahsoka series.
- Phoebe Waller-Bridge – Joining Mikkelson as a newcomer to the cast, Waller-Bridge plays Helena Shaw, Indy’s goddaughter. She brought L3-37 to life and provided the voice for the feisty droid in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
- James Mangold – The director of Dial of Destiny (the first movie not to be directed by Spielberg), Mangold will also be venturing into the Star Wars galaxy. It was announced at Star Wars Celebration earlier this year that Mangold is developing a Star Wars movie set way in the past, exploring the origins of the Jedi as they first discovered the Force.
