New teaser for The Mandalorian season 3 includes a very interesting glimpse at a Mandalorian domed city

A new teaser was released for The Mandalorian today, and it features a surprising amount of new footage.

In the 45 second teaser, titled “Who We Are,” we hear a voiceover from Din Djarin talking about how the creed is who they are, and we see plenty of glimpses of Djarin, Grogu, Bo-Katan, and other Mandalorians. But the most notable new shot is of a Gauntlet fighter approaching a domed city on a grassy planet.

For fans familiar with The Clone Wars or Rebels, the idea of a domed city will be immediately recognizable, as that’s how the cities on Mandalore were built in order for the people to survive after the desolation of the planet long ago. Most notable was the capital city of Sundari, but we’ve actually already seen what looks to be Sundari in a trailer for The Mandalorian… and it ain’t good. As we’ve heard referenced, and glimpsed in a flashback of The Book of Boba Fett, the night of a thousand tears left the planet ravaged by the Empire.

So what’s this domed city? The fact that it’s on a grassy planet would indicate to me that this probably isn’t Mandalore itself, as that planet was lifeless and desolated long before the Empire (thus the need for the domed cities). It could be that this is a flashback, but I think it’s more likely that it’s another Mandalorian colony somewhere. Perhaps this is where Bo-Katan’s group of Mandalorians have established their headquarters, trying to reclaim some of their customs and influence. That would make sense.

Of course, the other option that is worth mentioning is that this could actually be Mandalore, and we’re seeing it slowly return to life. That would seem to fit in line with where the show might be going this season in a symbolic sense with the people, so maybe the planet will follow suit? If that’s the case, though, I wouldn’t expect it to be right away, nor would I expect it to be in a teaser like this. I think it’s most likely, then, that it’s on another planet where Mandalorians are hanging out.

Regardless, I think it’s a fascinating shot, and it has me all the more excited to see the ways, cultures, and history of the Mandalorian people in this season. Din Djarin has the darksaber, he’s aligned (kinda) with Bo-Katan, and he’s headed to Mandalore. Perhaps he’ll be the one to finally be able to unite the people again.
