On the Star Wars Kids Youtube channel recently, LEGO released three animated Star Wars shorts centered around the holidays, and as you’d expect, they’re absolutely adorable.
The first short focuses on Din Djarin and Grogu, who travel all over Tatooine bringing presents to their friends: to Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, to Peli Motto and the majordomo, to tusken raiders, to Jawas, and to X-wing pilots (including Trapper Wolf). Then, at last, Djarin gives a present to Grogu.
The second short focuses on C-3PO and R2-D2, decked out in their Christmas sweaters, trying to get home for the holidays. Upon catching a ride, things don’t go exactly as planned, and they wind up traveling all over the galaxy (seeing some familiar places and faces) before they finally arrive at their destination: a holiday dinner with Leia, Luke, Han, Chewie, and Lando.
The third short follows Ben Kenobi on Tatooine, where Inquisitors arrive: the Grand Inquisitor, Reva, and the Fifth Brother. Kenobi sneaks around town decorating for Christmas, including hanging lights and wrapping the Inquisitors’ ship, but the Inquisitors lay a trap and think they’ve caught him, having trapped him in a large gift box which they present to Darth Vader… only to find Kenobi’s Eopie, wearing Christmas lights, instead.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve had LEGO Star Wars shorts like this centered around the holidays, but it never gets old. The cute, lighthearted, humorous, and heartwarming nature of them is perfectly fitting both for the season and for the format. It also serves as a way to tie-in to some of the Star Wars material that’s come out this year, as there are characters and settings from The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi included – plus the original trilogy heroes.
So I wish you a belated happy Life Day, a timely happy Thanksgiving, and an early merry Christmas!
