The Acolyte is an upcoming Star Wars series that has sort of flown under the radar since it was announced in December 2020, but production is ramping up – and with it, reports about the cast are starting to trickle out within the past month.
Deadline previously reported that Lee Jung-jae has been cast as the male lead for The Acolyte, starring alongside Amandla Stenberg. But more casting news has also started to drop, with the rest of the supporting cast beginning to take shape. The Hollywood Reporter says that Charlie Barnett has been cast in The Acolyte, while Deadline reports that Manny Jacinto has also joined the cast alongside Jodie Turner-Smith.
The show has been described as a mystery thriller that explores more of the dark side of the Force, set in the last days of the High Republic and in an era roughly 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace. It will be the earliest in-universe setting for any Star Wars movie or show, while it will also take a unique angle in being dark side-centric. As such, there’s a lot of potential to work with.
The series is being helmed by Leslye Headland, who will also be writing and executive producing the series. No release date has been given yet, but the series is beginning to get more attention as things begin to pick up.
