New trailer released for Andor, release date moved to September 21

Diego Luna joined Good Morning America this morning to unveil a brand new trailer for the upcoming Star Wars series Andor, which will premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, September 21.

That’s a different release date than was originally announced a few months ago, pushed back from August 31, but the first three episodes will all premiere on that same date. The first season will be twelve episodes, so we’re getting one-fourth of it on the first day. And even though it’s pushed back a few weeks, it looks like it will certainly be worth the wait – as the trailer looks epic.

In addition to the trailer, a new poster was released, evoking vibes of the Star Wars theatrical films:

Andor is a series that serves most directly as a prequel to Rogue One, with Diego Luna reprising his role as Cassian Andor, but it also seems to be filling a pivotal role in the Skywalker Saga, telling the story of the very early days of the Rebellion. The series will show Andor getting involved in the Rebellion, but it will also star Genevieve O’Reilly reprising her role as Mon Mothma, an Imperial Senator from Chandrila who was pivotal in forming the Rebel Alliance and wound up leading the Rebellion throughout the Galactic Civil War (and who then became the first Chancellor of the New Republic).

The series has flown under the radar quite a bit, presumably buried by the Obi-Wan Kenobi hype, but it seems that marketing is beginning to ramp up for it now, and it looks fantastic. I can’t wait to see it.
