Two years ago, Lucasfilm announced a new Star Wars mobile game, LEGO Star Wars Battles, would be coming in 2020. The game never released that year, with the release date changed to “coming soon.” It then had an early access release in 2021, but by the summer it was seemingly cancelled, looking doubtful that it would ever get a full release.
But in a surprising development – and a welcome one – the game has now been released, launching on September 24, 2021! It is available exclusively on Apple Arcade, however, which requires a subscription and an iOS device.
The game lets players battle on a number of different worlds and with many different Star Wars characters and creatures, all in LEGO form. You can check out the trailer that was released by Lucasfilm Games to coincide with its public launch:
Apple Arcade costs $4.99 a month on the App Store, but if you have not already signed up for a free trial that is likely available to you for a month. There are many games available to play, but obviously for Star Wars fans this will be at the top of the list.
I love any time LEGO and Star Wars team up, from the games to the specials to the actual sets themselves, and so I’m loving playing this game and exploring. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a new Star Wars mobile game release, so while it’s a bit unfortunate that it’s relegated to an Apple Arcade release, I’m nonetheless thrilled to actually have a new game to play from the galaxy far, far away! On a larger scale, I’m also loving the fresh life that’s being breathed into Star Wars gaming in general by Lucasfilm Games, and I hope many more things are in store to come!
