The Book of Boba Fett has apparently wrapped filming

Last Tuesday, Ming-Na Wen posted some pictures to twitter with the hashtag “#wrapgift,” seemingly suggesting that filming has wrapped on the first season of The Book of Boba Fett!

It’s unclear when exactly filming wrapped, and it’s probable that it concluded near the end of May, but we also knew that it was still filming in May. It started production back in December, so that’s a pretty lengthy period of filming for this show, which will be the next live-action series coming to Disney+. But with scheduling and other factors, it makes sense why it’d take around six months of filming, and the show is supposed to drop this December.

It’ll actually be the next story from The Mandalorian series, as it will be releasing before the third season of The Mandalorian – which, since it is supposed to go into production right after The Book of Boba Fett, will probably begin filming soon (if it hasn’t already).

The Book of Boba Fett, as the name suggests, follows Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) in the period after Return of the Jedi, as it was revealed in The Mandalorian that Fett survived his encounter with the sarlacc. He retrieved his armor from Din Djarin (who had retrieved it from Cobb Vanth) and helped Djarin rescue Grogu from Moff Gideon. After that, Fett and Fennec Shand (played by Ming-Na Wen) returned to Tatooine, where Fett killed Bib Fortuna and took his place on Jabba the Hutt’s throne in Jabba’s Palace. So while we don’t know exactly what this show is about, it seems like it’ll follow Fett as he moves into the power vacuum left by Jabba. I hope that, since it’s on Tatooine, we’ll see the return of Cobb Vanth and maybe some further exploration about what happened to Fett in the years leading up to this show, but we’ll have to wait and see.

We probably won’t get a trailer or anything for a while, and there’s obviously still a lot of work left to do on The Book of Boba Fett, but it sounds like shooting has wrapped, and that’s significant.

The Book of Boba Fett is being executive produced by Robert Rodriguez, Jon Favreau, and Dave Filoni and will star Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen as they reprise their roles as Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, respectively. It will release on Disney+ in December 2021.
