According to Deadline, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series has added Indira Varma to the cast!
She is perhaps best-known for her role as Ellaria Sand on Game of Thrones, but has also appeared in several films and a number of TV series. Deadline said that her “character details are under wraps,” so we don’t know who she will be playing.
But she joins a cast that stars Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, both of whom are returning after starring in the prequel trilogy. Deborah Chow, who directed two episodes of The Mandalorian’s first season, will also be returning to the franchise to serve as the showrunner on Obi-Wan Kenobi. In October, McGregor said that the show will begin filming in March 2021, so it should begin very, very soon. When that happens, I assume we’ll get an official casting announcement of sorts, but I’m not sure if we’ll get any details about who people are playing.
That includes Varma, whose character remains a mystery. The series will be set in-between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, when Kenobi is in exile in the Tatooine deserts as he watches over the young Luke Skywalker, but apparently something leads to a confrontation with his former apprentice, Darth Vader. We don’t know details, but the cast seems to be coming together, and filming should begin soon!
